OUTREACH
PROGRAM
“HANDOG KAPATID”
The
Office of Filipino Ministry under the Archdiocesan Catholic Center was created by Cardinal Roger Mahony on September 28, 1999 – feast of our first Filipino
Saint – San Lorenzo Ruiz de Manila with Sr. Mary Christina O. Sevilla, a
Religious of the Good Shepherd as its Director.
Only
a couple of months later after its creation, the Ministry was already faced
with its initial challenge to respond to the needs, especially of the Filipinos
in the Philippines when the Payatas tragedy struck. The Ministry found it was
imperative that an Outreach Program be created and thus “Handog Kapatid” was
born. Since then the ministry has been trying its best to continue providing
not only spiritual support but more so with financial assistance even though it
lost its own archdiocesan funding in 2002 when several offices including all
the Ethnic Ministries offices was phased out from the Archdiocesan Catholic
Center due to budget cuts.
Given
this reality the Office of Filipino Ministry was still able to give the
following assistance and still continues to provide assistance up to the
present –

overwhelmingly – extra-ordinarily way – to the above.
May
our Shepherd God, Who is never outdone in generosity, bless you in a way He
alone knows best!
