On Saturday, May 27th, 2006 at 10:00 a.m., the second annual celebration in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary will be held at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. Sponsored by the Filipino Ministry-Los Angeles, Alay kay Maria – Flores de Mayo at Santacruzan is a showcase of the Filipinos’ love for our Lady. Last year’s celebration brought memories of our age-old tradition and veneration of our Lady - showering Her with flowers while processing Her image around the block of St. Genevieve’s Catholic Church where the event was held. The procession is reminiscent of the ones we hold in the different provinces in the Philippines - going down the winding streets of both the poorest and the richest of neighborhoods and incorporating our history and heritage through the different personalities represented by each of the sagalas.
A Eucharistic celebration will follow with Bishop Oscar Solis, Auxiliary Bishop and Vicar for Ethnic (Multi-Cultural) Ministries of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles as main celebrant.
This celebration will not be a success without your participation. We still need sagalas to complete the line-up of both historic and religious personalities. Qualifications: Sagalas 10 yrs old & up; Children from 3-10 yrs old are especially invited to offer their flowers to Our Blessed Mother. Please call Sister Mary Christina Sevilla, RGS at 323-662-8480 or Butch Geraldez at 323-662-7154.
